I started on Compound X this fall, under ND supervision. I ordered your book, and am anxiously awaiting the arrival. However, my ND is out of town and the black area is starting to detach, if it 'falls out' before my Dr. returns how do I treat the area. Thanks in advance.

Unless your ND has read my book, it is unlikely that he/she would have the same recommendations as you will find in the book. One of the trickiest parts of the process is inspection of the site after the eschar detaches. I feel that this is the time when the opportunity for observation presents itself so you want to be sure the area does not close before all the mass is removed.

At this stage, you basically have two choices. You can just wait or you can begin filling the crack with something that inhibits scarring and promotes clean separation of the mass. In my book, I discuss the methods used by Dr. John Pattison. I do not sell the enucleating ointment to patients, but your practitioner can order it. The reason I don't sell it is that patients tend to misunderstand its use so they expect it to do more than it really does. It's painless, harmless, and easy enough to use, but it is just meant to fill the crack while the eschar is separating or to be used in conjunction with another process by adding to the formula.

Then, once the eschar detaches, you can use a poultice if there is a lot of discharge or Golden Myrrical if there are small visible roots . . . or you start over again if there is a large mass.

You can ask your ND to contact me if there are questions regarding these possibilities. The one thing you don't want to do is allow the area to close. You also need to keep the area clean.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I heard from my local bookstore that Cancer Salves (book) is out-of-print. Do you still have some in stock? Can I still order one and get it in a reasonably short time?

I thought I had that problem fixed. The North Atlantic imprint is out of print, but not the Seventh Ray Press imprint which is identical and what is immediately available.

How is it possible to treat necrotized tissue connected with squamous cell carcinoma on the tonsil?

Thanks for asking this question as it reminds me to keep up the momentum in developing gargles and mouthwashes and tooth powders that will be safe to use in the mouth.

One can always use the internal tonics, but no escharotic could be used in an area that does not lend itself to bandaging.

You are the fourth person in recent weeks to ask a question of this type so it's obviously time to become creative.

Hi,

I wrote a week or two ago to ask about using the black salve internally in tiny amounts as a cleanser for the system of a healthy person. I wanted to do this in support of a girlfriend who wants to use the salve internally for treatment of her breast cancer that has spread to her entire body. Please answer if you can as she is ready to begin soon.
Thank you so much.

I own a seven year old mare who developed a growth in the back part of her eye behind the iris. My veterinarian removed 90% of the tumor and sent it off to the University to be analyzed. It is a squamous cell carcinoma. One week later he returned to freeze the tumor (which had already started growing back) with nitrous oxide. That was 5 days ago and I fear it is already growing back again. My next option is to take her to the University of Missouri where an equine opthamologist will again freeze and surgically remove as much of the tumor as possible. If that doesn't work we will have to put her down.
I hate to lose an otherwise healthy and beautiful animal. Since equine and human medications are usually interchangeable, I wonder if you have any suggestions that I can try. I have your book, but can't find any recommendations for similar situations. Are there any treatments that can be used in the eye, or systemically, that might possibly help save this mare, and if so where can I acquire such treatments? Please reply as soon as possible, since time is running out for her. Thank you for any help you might be able to give.

Lois,

This is actually not only touching but interesting because almost all the herbs that I researched for the book were also famous eye remedies. I remember wondering what the common denominators might be.

Your horse must be very tolerant to put up with so much intervention. If she will permit applications to the area as well as drops in the eye, it's certainly worth a try.

I wonder about letting her graze on the very herbs that are supposed to be so helpful, letting her roll on herbs, and giving her the internal tonics. We, of course, make the trifolium for horses. It is a little more immune boosting than the people formula, but it is not quite as strong given that it is a glycerite rather than a steam displaced product in alcohol. Horses and other animals tolerate it well. Dogs gulp it, but we usually mix it into oats for horses.

I am working on some eye formulas, hoping to have time in the next few days. I always suspect "creatures: because flies and so forth must leave larvae in the eyes and the tumor may just be a way of encapsulating morbid material. Debulking is nearly always a heart breaking experience and I wonder that anyone does this.

I'd be happy to talk to your vet or have my vet friend talk to your vet. Where are you?

Thank you for your very prompt reply! I have been putting antibiotic ointment in the mare's eye twice a day at my veterinarian's request to avoid infection while there is still some irritation present from the freezing process. Of course she tries to clamp her eye shut, but with some persistence I am able to pry it open enough to apply the ointment in her lower eyelid. Her body heat seems to melt the ointment which then spreads to cover the eyeball. I would guess that eyedrops could be applied in a similar fashion.

The mare was heavily sedated when the vet first removed part of the tumor in order to send it into the lab, and she was knocked out entirely when he came back to do the freezing process. The cornea itself is not affected, and I understand that if I take her to the University of Missouri the operation would involve cutting into part of the cornea, but her eyesight would probably be unaffected, as long as the tumor does not grow back again--but of course that possibility worries me!

You mentioned letting her graze on various herbs, and the trifolium you make for horses. (After I finish this I will check your website for this--my mare will eat most things mixed with her grain.) Grazing on various herbs might be a problem right now. I'm not sure which herbs, or where to find them, especially since it is winter in Missouri. Trifolium is a type of clover I think. We do have red clover in our pastures in the summer, but we don't use hay with clover in it because our summer humidity makes it difficult to dry it sufficiently to avoid the mold which can cause colic.

You mentioned fly larvae as a possible cause, and we certainly do have our share of flies in Missouri during the warm weather. The veterinarian said that sun exposure is thought to be a cause of such tumors, although he sees it mostly in horses much older than she is, and usually in horses with more white in the eye than she has. I've raised over 100 horses during the past 25 years, some over 20 years old, and have never had anything like this before.

The veterinarian who is treating her is in Missouri, about 85 miles southwest of St. Louis. I have not talked with him since I posted my inquiry, since I thought I would wait for your answer and discuss with him any suggestions you might have. Also, I hesitate to post his name & phone number in a public place without his permission. Is there a more confidential way he could contact you?

Again, thank you so much for your help!

I know it sounds like the opposite of what most people would think works, but cayenne is often considered to be more effective than anything else. I suppose, it would be prudent to ask exactly where the ulcer is, but the mucilaginous herbs do not seem nearly as effective as the dynamite ones!

For what it is worth, but I'd get a little more information before trying this.

I thought I responded to the question late last month. I don't have all the answers. I know what I would do if it were me, but I am feeling a lot of confusion in the air here. I would definitely use the herbal bolus to see how much good it will do. I would also explore other avenues, but I don't feel comfortable troubleshooting without a full medical history. Many alternative approaches cannot really be used in conjunction with other treatments and it's not clear what he is doing now nor what he is willing or wanting to do.

Stone Free. It very gradually dissolves them, takes months usually.

See http://www.kitchendoctor.com/healthconditions/gallbladder.html

It's about gall stones but the issue is similar and the same remedy works for both.

Somewhere in the maze (to me) of your website, there was reference to a Chaparral tablet. I've seen a drop available, but if you could refer me to a place that sells a quality chaparral tablet, I'd appreciate it. Have been using Jason Winters' Tribalene for some time, but since they stopped using chaparral in the combination, it's been less effective I believe. Thank you.

Yon,

Your question was quite appropriate. I have been visiting with doctors these last days and had a very long talk with one who gives chaparral to all his patients, but in tincture form. It is simply that this is the form available; there was nothing to suggest that tea, tincture, or tablets have been compared to each other.

Dear Ingrid,
I am using an enulceating paste made of goldenseal, tumeric, white willow bark in an apricot kernel oil base for a tumour on the chest of a friend (it is not on her breast, but above her breast just below her collar bone on the right side). She is an elderly lady and cannot tolerate the pain of a zinc chloride salve. My questions is: can we effectively use only this paste? Will it do the job to remove the tumor or is it necessary to use a black paste or something else in combination? Also, do you have any idea how long treatment takes on average if someone uses the non-zinc goldenseal paste only? Please advise!
With many thanks, Liza

Liza,

You and your friend should read my book first so you understand that the paste you just described is just the base ointment. In very rare cases of extremely shallow tumors, it is adequate on its own. In 99.99% of other situations, one adds a bloodroot paste until a real reaction takes place.

Good luck!

I am in the process of using compound x for the second time and am very concerned about my next step. I originally received the salve from a friend to try on a growth on my 10 y/o sons back. I decided to try it on a lump(boil?) on my l thigh first. It removed the lump and had healed within 2 weeks. I had also spoke with a lady who had had breast cancer that had progressed to her bones. Her husband treated her succesfully with the same compound x along with diet and spiritual help. Since my instruction sheet that came with the salve stated that I could use it internally for detox. and 2 ND's told me I was ripe for cancer-I took a 3 week course of it with 2 day breaks after each week. Meanwhile I found your website and received your book. Physically I felt great-much more alert. After taking it I found another lump on my L inner thigh that was not a pimple. I had read that when you take the salve internally, the morbid matter may find an exit. What I think happened is that since I had used that area before, thats the place it went. Unfortunately I didnt finish reading the book as to areas you may not want to place the salve. I just thought I could get rid of it as quickly as the last so I placed the salve on. I dressed it and used a large ace wrap around my thigh. Im not sure if it was because my thighs rubbed together and spread it a little or I used the black salve (comp. x) 24 hrs(with dsg changes)x 4-5 days. The previous time I had used vaseline with goldenseal and myrrh at night. The fifth day I became very sick and feverish. I have a close friend who is a physician. She saw me in my home and said it looked like a bad case of cellulitis. She even suggested I go to ER that night. The site was green, hard, red, and edematous. I am an RN and have worked in preventative health care, so she agreed it would be ok to try a charcoal poultice that night. I had read the complete book by then and knew this could happened but worried I wasnt thinking clearly. I saw a homeopathic MD the next day who said she had no experience with black salve but had heard of it. She said it looked very infected, and gave me an antibiotic. I was already feeling much much better by then but he sit looked so bad I took it anyway.I hadnt had an antibiotic in years but thought I might have had a bad sinus infection on top of it. Well the med. made me so sick after taking only one (vomiting), that I didnt take any more. I simply cont. the activated charcoal/ flaxseed poultices, then switched to vaseline, goldenseal, myrhh. After the mass fell off I saw a green core so reapllied the black salve. It was a large open area so it hurt alot. It did not hurt the first 2 min. I applied it which gave me time to finish dressing it. ( put a layer of vaseline on the dsg after putting the salve in the core thinking it would help with the seal and moisture.) My husband and older son couldnt help me at all (they couldnt look), so I would do it quickly then lay down. The pain only lasted 10-15 min. During the black salve days I did feel tingling down my leg and warmth in my L heel. This time after the mass detached I used Gaia bloodroot drops in the hole at first alone and then mixed with the charcoal poultice and then the golden/myrhh poultice.Again I thought there was still some yelowish green in the center so I did it a fourth time. I havent gotten sick nor has the site reacted as violently as it did the first time. I used the black salve alone (with a small layer of vaseline on the outer gauze) for 24 hrs/day x 4-5 days this time. The hole did not fill up with morbid matter as it did before. The core looks yellowish and is hard . Its blistered around it and has a hard mass along the edges. Is this mass just a reaction to the zinc or is it more stuff tha needs to come out. I started using a charcoal poulice with bloodroot in it this am. I figure Ill let the stuff come out and look again. I'll do this as long as I need to Im just concerned I may be doing something wrong. I know I never should have put it in an area so close to my perineum and between my thighs. Im very clean and careful with the dsg changes but do not treat it as a sterile procedure. Is a little yellow possibly normal? The flesh aroun the core looked reddish-pink and very healthy. The yellowish core has been hard. Should I have left the Black salve on longer? Did the vaseline on the dsg possibly hurt something? I was careful to put a good amt. of black salve directly on the spot and a little around it. I drink 3T of barley life amoung other herbs daily. I dont know what this site will look like this time after the charcoal poultices but I am able to go to Toronto if nec. I dont type well and am very slow on the computer so hope you answer. I would greaatly appreciate any insight you could give me regarding my next step. thankyou, janine

Gosh, Janine,

This is quite a story but unfortunately, I don't have any pat answers. You are a nurse and ought to be able to assess some of the reactions yourself, especially now that you have finished the book.

I wonder what the basis was for the NDs to tell you that you are ripe for cancer. Personally, even if I had such a thought, I would not energize it by giving it voice.

As you have discovered, the black salve is reactive with a wide variety of morbid conditions. Moreover, my observation is that so long as such conditions exist, the site will not want to close up. Meanwhile, it is not uncommon for the edge to get harder. You might want to use a scar ointment instead of the vaseline.

While the black salve is really dramatic, the main risk factors with its use are pain that is so acute that it causes people to abort the process and overstimulation of the site that is being used as the point of exit for morbid material that is likely moving through the lymphatic system.

I personally am not thrilled about what I see as overreliance on the salve at the expense of internal measures that address the underlying condition. This said, I don't know how to make my case: every expert whose opinion I quoted in my book felt that the internal measures were MORE important than the external. This is not a reason for withholding the external but rather a basis for a broader and more thorough approach to whatever the condition is that is causing the lumps and swelling.

It's why I have focused my efforts on the production of internal tonics rather than salves. For instance, supposing it is true that some polio vaccines were contaminated with SV40 and that this, in turn, has resulted in an epidemic of lymphatic cancers. Wouldn't you want to address the contaminant in the vaccine and the lymphatic system rather than one spot?

When veterans of the Vietnam Conflict have taken bloodroot internally, they often break out in dozens of places, almost overnight. They say these pustules are related to exposure to Agent Orange. No one knows, but much as we want to rid the body of Agent Orange, black salve externally (or even internally) may not be the most appropriate way to achieve this.

The difference between how someone who sells the black salve describes the use and how I see it can sometimes be extensive. I believe the salves have their place, but they need to be understood for what they are: very aggressive ways to address very serious conditions. This said, I think you could consider a teleconference with Judith Andrade in Toronto. Based on what you discuss, you might decide to see her.

I just hope that others reading this will understand why finishing the book before starting is better than discovering it later! I also hope people will try to work with others who are experienced. I grant that such people might be hard to find but hopefully, this will not be the case a few years from now. Meanwhile, the learning curve is steep. My sense is that you have not created a problem that will lead to long-term regrets, but you have obviously done something that now requires proper management.

I wish you success.

Hello,
I would certainly appreciate your help. I have been going to a naturopathic practioner for a couple years now. I am a healthy 54 yo woman, who exercises every morning and a Registered Nurse. Lata week while seeing my practioner I asked her about some nodules I have had on shin of my right leg. I had 1 for several years that was not quite the size of a pea, and had noticed that about 3-4 more had formed in the general area over the last year. She felt them and said maybe they would repsond to the black salve. I had never heard of this before. She stated that it would only work on abnormal tissue and could be painful. The treatment comprised of using the black salve (which she said is made of zinc oxide, galangul, slippery elm and bloodroot) every day x 4 days with complete moisture barrier change each day. Then to change to a moisturizing cream until the core drops out then to a scar cream until healed. The black salve was tingly and itchy for 3 days and then became more painful. More importantly, my leg started swelling. I was quite concerned that I had developed a cellulitis. I contacted my practitioner whe wanted to see my leg. She suggested that I repeat the black salve for 1 more day since the pain had caused me to stop at about 3 1/2 days. She also said that it all looked normal and that some people have more swelling than others.
However, I am now on day 9 and the swelling in my leg has not abated in fact it seems worse and now extends from my toes to my knee, is inflamed and very tender. I change the dressing several times a day , washing with H2O2 and covering with the prepared cream and moisture barrier. I am taking 3 ASA at a time for the discomfort, several times a day. Now I've noticed that my lymph glands in my right groin and right under arm are swollen and tender. The area that I started out applying the salve was the size of the top of an eraser is now about the size of a quarter, brownish, hard, but not sensitive to touch. Everything around it surely is though.
I have not contacted my practioner, because I truly believe that she should have educated me on all the possibilities and now wonder if I'm hearing everything I should be. I realize that you can't see this or diagnose but do you think this is normal? Have some Keflex that I have been taking each day (1) mainly out of fear. My leg is about 1/2 again as big as it should be and sometimes I have difficulty walking.
Anything you can share is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Kathi

Kathi,

Unfortunately, what you have described is a fairly normal reaction . . . which is why I urge people to read my book before starting . . . but here we are, knee deep, literally, in reactions.

The important question is whether or not you see any cracking around the periphery of the eschar that is forming. If so, the mass will no doubt detach, but it would be in your interests to be prepared because now that you have started on this process, there is probably some advantage to staying with it . . . as opposed to attempting to abort the process and prevent the eschar from separating.

What you are observing is the necrotization of tissue. It would be very helpful if you could take as much stress off the leg as possible because the constant use of your muscles is bound to become increasingly painful right up to the very moment that the eschar detaches. Then, everything will suddenly ease. However, you will have a hole, a hole the size of a quarter. There are possibilities and probabilities of serious exudation from this hole . . . plus there will be an opportunity to observe what was going on under the skin. I can't emphasize enough how valuable it would be to get the input of someone with prior experience since some fairly important decisions will need to be made in the next few days. If you write me privately, I may be able to refer you to someone nearby.

Good luck!

Ingrid,
Thank you for your answer. The eschar has detached from the skin on the perimeter but is still attached. I'm washing several times a day with H2O2 and applying the cream with a moisture barrier covering. The pain and swelling in the leg is almost completely gone, and there has been some drainage from the hole. I'm following the directions I received but am curious how long before the entire mass falls off. What I can see is that the skin is seperating from the mass from the outer perimeter toward the center. Will I be able to see something else?
How do I write to you privately? Thank you for your help. Kathi

Kathi,

It may take several days. Sometimes, the eschar hangs on in one place, sometimes by a thread. Do not attempt to separate it. Allow Nature to take its course.

You can contact me by going to http://www.cancersalves.com/contactus.html

Hi,

I started investigating black salve when my friend told me about removing plantars warts with something called Virxcan salve. After looking at your site, I thought I had better check it out a little more. Do I need to read your book simply for removing a wart? Or is the concern mostly for those who have cancerous growths? Do I even need black salve for warts or is there another salve that would be better and maybe less risky?

After reading many sites, I also began to wonder if taking these types of herbs internally can eliminiate herpes simplex 1 (cold sores). I get cold sores about once a year and hate them! I would love to be rid of them for good.

I have other skin abnormalites like skin tags and little raised bumps all over my chest that look like mini skin tags(I think they appeared after getting a sunburn), but I am afraid of getting in too deep at the moment.

I am really intrigued by the info that you provide on your site. Thank you for any help you can offer.

Oh, one more thing, I am currently breastfeeding and don't know what is safe for me to do. I have been interested in doing different cleanses as well as the salve, but am holding off on these until I am no longer nursing.

Thanks,

Shelby

Shelby,

There are mild protocols in Ayurveda for purifying mother's milk that might also alleviate some of the underlying factors contributing to your external ones. Also, colon cleansing tends to pay off big time where skin conditions are concerned. You simply want to use mild herbs that are a bit on the demulcent side until you are no longer nursing your baby.

Virxcan, as the name suggests, tends to address conditions of a viral origin more than ones that are fungal or bacterial, but it isn't quite that black and white.

Once you are no longer breastfeeding, you can work on your immunity. Eeven now, astragalus ought to be very safe. It's a really gentle herb.

Hi Ingrid,

Thanks for responding to my questions! Where could I find information on the specific herbs that are safe for me- as well as a routine to follow? I have been feeling very strongly lately that I need to heal my body. Besides the weird skin problems (plantars warts, exzema, cold sores, skin tags, a recent bout with impetigo, etc) that make me suspect a weak immune system, I just haven't been feeling that great. I have a long history of stress which I know contributes to the state I am in- and I know I am not getting enough sleep (plus breastfeeding may be draining me). I also struggle with food- because I get so boggled about what to eat that won't harm me- that I either don't eat enough, or I give in and eat whatever is easiest just so I will eat- and I don't get a lot of variety that way. I do read labels and try to stay away from too much corn syrup, sugar, partially hodregenated oils, and white flour/potatoes, etc.

I am worried because I lost my mother to breast cancer just under four years ago. She carried the BRCA2 mutation. Both of her sisters have battled breast cancer and her aunt had ovarian cancer. I want to find a routine to get healthy and strong (and stay that way)- that I feel clear about and can do for a long period of time. Right now, I feel like my body is probably slowly breaking down.

I do want to mention that I have been taking the Bodywise vitamins for 4 years now- their daily supplement, plus a product formulated by the viroimmunologist, Jesse Stoff. The formula (AgImmune) contains AiE10, astragalus, maitake mushroom, and arabinogalactan. You mentioned astragalus, but I don't know if the dose in the AgImmune is sufficient for what I need or not. Obviously, my skin is still showing some kind of weakness. I did go for a few years without exzema which was a huge deal... but it has come back since having my second child.

Sorry to go on and on... just wanted to give you some kind of idea where I am coming from.

In addition to finding a source that lists the herbs I need, maybe it would help to know if there are any practitioners in my area who could help me. I live in central Washington (an hour from Wenatchee). I do have a naturopath who I have mostly used for my 5 yr. old son... but I don't know if I need someone with a specific specialty.

Thanks so much, Ingrid!

Shelby

IS THERE A SALVE THAT WILL WORK IN THE THROAT AREA. I HAD VOCAL CORD CANCER ~ 3 YEARS AGO AND HAD 36 SHOTS OF RADIATION TO GET RID OF IT. UNTIL RECENTLY, I'VE FELT GOOD BUT I FEAR THAT MY GLANDS/LYMPH NODES MIGHT BE TELLING ME OTHERWISE. IS THERE A SALVE THAT WILL WORK UNDER MY EAR/ACROSS MY THROAT.

I JUST CAN'T STAND THE THOUGHT OF LOSING MY VOICE OR HAVING TO START CHEMOTHERAPY SHOULD I BE RIGHT ABOUT THE ABOVE AND I'M LOOKING EVERYWHERE IN THE "NATURAL" AREA FOR INFO.

I'VE BEEN TAKING CO Q10 ENZYME AS WELL AS 2 SHARKS LIVER OIL CAPSULES TO HELP STRENGTHEN MY IMMUNE SYSTEM AND I PLAN ON STARTING THE PARASITE CLEANSE THIS WEEKEND.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I COULD BE DOING?

Shelby,

I think you need a really thorough evaluation by a qualified practitioner. A bulletin board is more for simple questions, often out of context of the whole person because of the limitations inherent in the method of communication.

Unfortunately, I feel the same response is necessary for Cagmsla because while there might be some quickie suggestions to alleviate some of the side effects of irradiation, the condition demands a comprehensive strategy for management. This said, if there is a history of cancer in the family, it might be sensible to undertake specific anti-cancer measures in addition to the more general immune protocols.

From the manufacturer. He used to be in Nevada; we have not been in touch for many years so I don't have current contact information.

Hi I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in Jan. 2004. PSA 4.6, gleason 6, stage T2b. I'm in great health, very active and I'm seeing a alternative health care Dr. I am taking a variety of herbs, watching my diet and getting excercise. I am considering Essiac and Hoxley Tonic. Which do you think will give me the best results?
I appreciate your oppinion. Thanks

Does anyone have any info on herbs used for treating Pancreatic Cancer. I have a relative with an inoperable tumor which did not respond to chemo therapy either. Is Cumin useful and if so, in what form? I understand there are clinical trials in progress to test this. Thanks.

My mother has oral cancer and has tried radiation and was until recently part of a drug study with out any luck. She has applied for a new study, but if she does not get approved there is really nothing that they can do. She was told she can try traditional chemo, but there is only a 25% chance of it working. I have read a little bit about ESSIAC and I am wondering if anyone could tell me where I could find a reputable source to purchase it from and/or a good website with more information on it. If she doesn't get approved for the drug study I would like to see if she would be open to trying it. I am getting married in July and my sister graduates college in May and I don't know what I will do if my mom is not there. Any help would be appreciated (or if you know of something besides essiac that might help, I'm open to anything).
