Iam a breast cancer survivor of 10 yrs. I had a double mastsectomy with saline implants. Since then I endure severe itching with no apparrent reason. The itching is always in the same area and seems to come on when the seasons change, experiencing the most severe itching with the summer-fall season change. Ice seems to relieve temporarily. I've tried every over the counter itch cream available and also presc. cream with no avail. Dr. cannot seem to provide answers. I'm curious if other breast cancer survivors have experienced this same problem and if anyone has an effective treatment for relief..Thank you.. |

According to Ayurveda, itching is caused by "toxic fire," i.e. something irritating and perhaps acidic as well. The increase in severity at the change of seasons adds some "air element" to the issue. Most patients have more itching at the full moon . . . and it is a very common problem but not one to be ignored.
My mentioning the implants, I assume you are implying that they could be the cause. Some women complain of irritation where a corner of the pouch is pressing against tissue, usually where the skin is quite thin. Others suspect leakage or chemical reactions with the implant material, not the saline solution but the plastic itself.
Coptis reduces the itchiness but does not seem to resolve the underlying issue on any kind of permanent basis. There is a page on this site where this is discussed. |
