Hello Ingid,
I am currently undergoing radiation therapy following breast cancer in both breasts (with no lymph involvement). Progressed Sun conjunct Progressed Uranus! The alternative was a double mastectomy which I was unable to justify at decision time. I have very fair and fragile skin and after 10 of the 35 treatements am already reddening. I am using active clay with 3 drops naiouli oil as a poultice after treatment to 'cool' the area - not yet sure how efficacious it will be but in principle clay 'should' neutralise some of the radiation on the skin surface. I am also taking Astragalis tonic. I am trying to find herbs to take or to mix in a salve to protect me over the next 5 weeks - the clinic recommends only the use of sorbolene. I have been reading about Curcumin as an extract of Tumeric. I can't find it in Australia but wondered if you could give your opinion on taking Tumeric (mixed with honey). Burns are my greatest fear in this entire process. Apologies if this topic has already been discussed.

Linda,

The topic has not previously been discussed but only yesterday I decided to make up something for someone whose burns were so serious that his face looks worse than someone with leprosy. It is the worst I have ever seen (email attachment) and he was told to stop eating so he would die faster.

The question at the stage you are in is exactly what the clinic suggested: given that you have chosen to destroy the tumors using radioactivity, you must not interfere with the treatment by doing something that would reduce its effectiveness. Once the cancer is destroyed, it's relatively easy to treat the burns providing there is a need to do so (and providing they are not as serious as the ones I saw recently.)

I recommend baths of sea salt and soda and draw the toxicity out of the body. You need to use half a cup of each per tub of water. You stay in the tub for 20-30 minutes. You need to do this 21 times, daily or every other day. This does not help with the burns, but it helps with the toxicity of the radioactivity.

So far as diet and herbs go, you want to rely on the adaptogens and find out what is available in Australia. Obviously, you can use garlic, but you should be able to find Siberian ginseng also.

I'm a great fan of turmeric and use it so extensively that my students nicknamed me "turmeric doctor." I use it for scars but not for burns.

I don't know about clay. It's astringent and most holistic practitioners don't like to use astringents with cancer. You'd think it would add to the dryness. I would think that aloe would be much better. You could add the essential oils to the aloe, but you want to be sure that the oils are exceptionally pure . . . and you want to be sure they are permissible in conjunction with the treatment you are receiving.

I would think that no one would object to internal use of trace minerals, seaweeds, and astragalus, but I think you need to ask more questions before applying anything directly to the treatment site. Obviously, there is very little likelihood the radiologist will offer any support for your choices (one of my friends is a radiologist, an open-minded one, but she is a long way from knowing how to combine holistic medicine with radiology . . . which goes to show not everything rubs off!)

Good luck.
